If you are also one among those person who keeps taking photos, videos all the time then surely at some point you will suffer from low space (storage) to no space. We all know that iPhone doesn’t have expandable storage, Keeping this in mind SandDisk has made a new device called iXpand Flash
The new iXpand is more portable, slimmer, faster and easier than the old iXpand that was released in 2014. The new design of iXpand is very eye catchy, its half portion is USB Drive, one-quarter Lightning connector and one quarter curved rubbery bit. The new iXpand has USB 3.0 connector and is compatible with most device cases due to its flexible design.
Some of the features of new iXpand Flash Drive are listed below:
- Easy transfer between iPhone, iPad and computers.
- Automatically sync photo and videos
- Play music and video directly from the drive.
- Over 3x the transfer speed of others drives.
- Password protect your files.
SanDisk has also updated the iXpand Drive mobile app with a new design, new features and improved user experience. The app is available in App Store. It is easy to download and very simple to use. The app launches when the iXpand Flash Drive is plugged into an iPhone – allowing for the immediate storage expansion, access to the users content and easy file management. The iXpand Flash Drive allows users to automatically back up photos, videos, music and other files, organizing them into neat little folders that can be accessed when plugged into an iOS device or computer. We can even watch popular video format straight from the drive.
Note: We should enable or turn ON the setting to automatically back up the content.
The new Flash Drive also includes encryption software that password protects files, allowing people to share their content while keeping sensitive files secure across devices.
The app now has a camera function so users can take photos or record videos and have the content saved directly onto the iXpand Flash Drive rather than the device’s internal storage. The app also allows users to automatically backup the content like photos and videos from popular social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram etc, as well as play back music within the app.
This time the company removed the internal battery that was found in previous model. The iPhone own in-built battery will drain much faster if you spend too much hanging up with this iXpand. The iXpand Drive mobile app doesn’t support some popular sound encodings, such as DTS or AC3. This means some video files will play without sound. (The old version of the drive used to support these sound encodings but no longer does now after required firmware upgrades.)

This time also the iXpand continues with same problem. It needs to be formatted in the archaic FAT32 file system to work with the mobile app. (You can format it in other file systems, such as NTFS or exFAT, but then it can only work as a regular flash drive.) FAT32 can hold single files of just 4GB or less and many of the HD movies require more than 4GB to store in a digital format.
SanDisk’s new iXpand Flash Drive will ensure you’ll never run out of space on your iPhone. It is available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The drive is compatible with iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad(12.9 inch), iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation) running iOS 8.2 or later.
